Expensive Aussie dramas lose out to cheap US TV

Making an Aussie drama works out to be approximately 13 times the cost of putting a US equivalent on our screens. The figures released by Screen Australia show a decline in Australian-produced content on TV.

The research, conducted by the Australian film board found that those Aussie-made programs on free-to-air TV had dropped by 52 percent since 2008 to 38 percent this year.

Screen Australia blames the significant fall in local content on the widespread introduction of digital broadcasting. Digital sub-channels are not required to fulfil minimum locally produced programs regulations of the main channels.

According to the survey, approximately 10 percent of drama that aired on Australian TV screens was produced at home. 16 percent of TV’s drama came from the UK, while 63 percent was produced in the US.

Current broadcast regulations state that commercial broadcasters, such as Ten, Seven and Nine are all required to air … Continue Reading

Kate Bracks MasterChef Win Clouded by “the Renovators”

For all of those who couldn’t wait that long, Kate Bracks, mother from NSW won the title of MasterChef last night. Unfortunately, her amazing $100,000 prize was disturbed by Channel 10’s decision of injecting an episode of “The Renovators” in the middle of the two and a half hour finale. It is understandable that the network wanted to improve the ratings of “The Renovators-Home Improvement Show” but their timing was a little off. Sandwiching an episode of the show in the middle of the MasterChef finale (one of the most watched shows in Australia) was a little too risqué and I’m afraid that their risk didn’t really pay off, as a lot of their viewers ended up sleeping before watching the finale decision.

No one really cared about who won MasterChef, all they cared about was the fact that Channel 10 ruined their final viewership. Ms Bracks won a contract for a cookbook along with her generous prize money. The program was deemed to be “cynical” by the viewers, as they thought that the Channel had made their audience wait just to revive a dying show. Twitter was soon ablaze with comments about the Network’s decision. MasterChef viewers were so angry that they exclaimed that in contrast to what the network thinks they aren’t children who can be told what to and what not to watch.

Back to the real competition, the 3rd season of MasterChef was won by Kate Bracks who gave the Adelaide projectionist Michael Weldon a real run for his money. An innovative carrot sorbet in the end won the competition for Bracks. The NSW mother is beyond herself with happiness and is looking forward to starting on her cookbook and spending her prize money.

Charlie Harper Killed by Public Transport

Charlie Sheen was killed off from “Two and a Half Men”, this is old news, he was fired from the popular series in March, this, is even older news. However, the way that Sheen will be killed off from the show has finally been revealed. People who attended the taping of the first episode of the new season on Friday came back with excited news (spoiler alert), Sheen aka Charlie Harper will fall or will be pushed in front of a French subway train by his half-crazy half stalker wife Rose.

Charlie Harper’s death happens in the following sequence: he marries his stalker Rose and flies with her to Paris; she finds him in bed with someone else mere days later. A day after Rose finds out that he cheated; he falls (“or is pushed”) in front of a subway train while the couple is waiting on the platform. The story was told by Rose on Charlie’s funeral, which was attended by many of his former girlfriends amongst other guests.

As expected, Sheen isn’t taking the news or circumstances of his death too hard and is even throwing an at home screening party for his friends and hotties to celebrate his characters tragic and somewhat gruesome death. The producers of the show are excited to move forward and be dealt with Sheen so they can start with “That 70’s show” star Ashton Kutcher. The producers intention will somewhat be fulfilled as Kutcher is definitely a great distracting appearance. His eye candy looks and good acting will definitely make audiences forget Sheen in no time. The cast of the show however is a totally different story who is yet not that impressed with Kutcher’s diva personality.

The shows ninth season will be aired in the US on September 19th.

According to FOXNews.com the new season will premier in two parts and will feature Charlie Harper’s dramatic funeral. The funeral like the player Charlie Harper will be happening and hot as all the women from Charlie’s past will attend his funeral to pay their respects. Later on in the episode his famous Malibu bachelor pad will be put on sale, this will cue Ashton Kutcher’s appearance on the show.

A lot of real life celebrities from “Two and Half Men” producer Chuck Lorre’s other shows will also show up on Harper’s funeral as prospective buyers for the bachelor pad. However, all buyers will fade away when Kutcher will step in as an internet billionaire suffering from a broken heart. Kutcher’s character’s name on the show is Walden Schmidt; he has been hired as a replacement for Charlie Sheen who was dumped by the show this March. Although, Kutcher has been hired as Sheen’s replacement, however Ashton Kutcher’s character shares no family relation to the other characters on the show.

Producers of the show “Two and Half Men” are struggling to keep other storylines and surprises of the upcoming season hidden from the public as not to ruin the surprise for them. The season premier featuring Ashton Kutcher will be recorded in front of a live audience, later this week in Los Angeles, the season is going to air in United States in September.

Kutcher might be a heartthrob of many teenage girls however sources reveal that the cast of “Two and Half Men” is missing Sheen more and more with each passing day, as everybody thinks that the 33 year old, Kutcher is just too much of a diva.
